Frequently Asked Questions
What is a rego check?
A rego check is a safety inspection required for registering certain vehicles in NSW. It ensures your car, bike, trailer or caravan meets roadworthy standards. If it passes, you’ll receive an eSafety certificate (pink slip) that lets you renew your rego.
When do I need a rego check?
You’ll need a rego check if your vehicle is more than five years old and registered in NSW. It’s also required if you’re transferring ownership or re-registering a vehicle after it has been unregistered. The check is usually valid for 42 days.
How long does a rego check take?
A standard rego check typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. If your vehicle passes, the pink slip is submitted electronically to Service NSW. If it fails, the mechanic will provide a report outlining what needs to be fixed before retesting.
